"Hero of Forgiveness" Nomination

Hawai'i Forgiveness Project

Do you know a person who has practiced forgiveness in his or her life in a way that is an inspiration and role model for others?

The committee for Hawai'i International Forgiveness Day is seeking nominations for recognition of "Heroes of Forgiveness". The purpose of this program is to draw attention to people who have demonstrated the positive, transformative power of forgiveness, and who are willing to share their stories so that others may learn about the benefits of forgiveness.

Awards are presented personally at Forgiveness Day, in Honolulu on the first Sunday in August each year. Since 2002, many outstanding citizens of Hawaii and the world have been so honored -- their example, presented to the public for emulation, helps to establish the high value of forgiveness as a life skill for the people of our Islands, for all to see.

You can see examples of past Heroes of Forgiveness by visiting this page on the Internet: http://www.hawaiiforgivenessproject.org/heroes.htm

To submit a nomination, please fill out the form below and state why you are nominating the individual for the recognition. A committee will review the nominations up to the deadline, three days before Forgiveness Day, the first Sunday of August. We may contact you for further details. Those being honored will be notified immediately, at the email and/or telephone number you provide.

Please tell us why you are nominating this person. Points to cover may include the story of their work in forgiveness, examples of how forgiveness has been shown by their words and actions, and the obstacles they had to overcome to find true forgiveness in their lives. Please describe your relationship with the nominee.

Keep in mind that we prefer the nominee to be active, now or in the past, in the life of Hawai'i in some way, and that we like to present the awards personally, with a brief acceptance speech by the winners, in Honolulu. (Exceptions have been made to both these preferences; please explain, if needed.)
