The Vikings League and Vikings Club are expanding our fall recreational soccer program this year to include a new combined U15 and U16 boys division (for boys born between 8/1/92 and 7/31/94 – typically high school freshman and sophomores). At the moment there is no recreational soccer program for boys in this age group in San Francisco and many high school soccer programs prove to be too competitive for recreational players, especially in their freshman and sophomore years.
Our objective is to provide recreational soccer players an opportunity to continue to play soccer. It seems unfortunate to us that the only options for boys in this age group to play fall soccer are to make a substantial time commitment to a traveling team or make the high school 'cut'.
In general we expect the fall soccer program to be organized as follows:
- We will likely play games on Saturdays.
- We will play either 6 aside or 7 aside soccer depending upon the total number of players. We anticipate a minimum of four teams of 9 – 12 players.
- Our season will start in the middle/end of September and go through the middle of November (about eight weeks).
- Players will sign up individually with the Vikings. Teams will be formed by the League and any parents who volunteer to help manage the teams/games. We will take into account the teammate preferences provided by the players in the online registration form. However, we cannot guarantee any particular team composition.
- Parent volunteers will be expected to manage the teams during their games.
- The teams will not be required or expected to practice, but the Vikings may offer optional practice sessions during the week for all players (combined from all teams).
